...."no
dog shall be asked to do anything at these trials which in opinion
of the judges might not be useful in an ordinary day's
shooting".......

..."it's nice to see two or more
dogs working together,
because that's often the reality, but there shall be enough
ground, so that both of them can edify and utilize their
searching abilitis"....

..." the experienced dog is working
in his own areea and do not
disturb the other dogs by searching the same ground -
and this is realy the dogs we want to see high up on the pricelist,
instead of a dog who manage to get the ground for himself
by dominate the other/others out of the areea"...
![]()
..." a direction is to send the dog
to a certain areea and then leave
the rest to the dogs abilitis and
experience".....
![]()
..."if a direction is organized from
a realistic sight of wiew,
both dog and handler have to work together"....
![]()
..."good marking is essential in a
retriever as he should not disturb game
or ground unnecessarily. There should be given full credit to a dog
which goes straight to the fall, and without any help from his handler
gets on with the job. A good gamefinding dog should not rely on the
handler
to find the game. He should, however, be obidient and respond to his
handler's signals when necessary. Dogs showing gamefinding ability
and initiative should be placed above those which have to be handled on
their game.
Usually the best dog seem to require the least handling.
He appears to have an knowledge of direction
and makes difficult finds look simple and easy"....

"There is a cardinal rule to
remember when choosing a puppy
for work with the gun. This is that no matter how well-bred
or how good-looking the puppy may be, unless it is bred from working stock
the chances are that it will be difficult to train and an
indifferent worker when training is finished"
(from the book: "Gundogs,Training and Field
Trials")

"It is an unfortunate fact that
today many people are
interested in gundog breeds purley as show animals,
and pay no attention to working qualities, breeding as a rule for looks,
type and other show points. The true working dogs are bred
from parents with working histories, and generally with
several generations of Field Trial Champions and winners
in their pedigrees, often regardless of looks"
(from the: "Gundogs,Training and Field Trials")
